“Archie van der Ploeg (1939-2002) grew up in Windhoek and Swakopmund. He later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa and attended the Johannesburg Technical Art Collage.

He started painting at an early age and was inspired by SA landscape artist Tinus de Jong. Archie worked in oi, arcyl and watercolour. His subject matter was landscape. His style was Romantic Realism.

Archie was also a gifted, self taught guitar player and spent about 20 years of his artistic career as a professional musician in the music.

He moved back to Namibia in 1980 and opened “Reflections Artist’s Gallery” in 1987 with his wife Isabel and fellow artists Eileen Johnson and Koos van Ellinckhuizen.

One of his oil paintings “A Secret Place” was donated by the Government of Namibia to Queen Elizabeth II of the UK and the Duke of Edinburgh during their visit to Namibia in 1991.

Archie was also the founder of the “Klippenberg Art Festival” in Karibib, in benefit of the blind and death and to teach less fortunate young people in various art forms.”
